Oooh..la..la..la.. Episode # 4

It was yet another week of musical  excess. I am beginning to very cautiously work around time to keep myself completely free to watch ooh la la la.The maestro behind the show, the concept, the originality, talent and creativity literally captivates me.

Again the three teams that came up this week were awesome. On another note, if compared with the teams of previous week, these teams would have been a shade below. The interesting part is we can only do a relative comparison and not an absolute judgement. If I were to judge them on absolute terms, each of the team were spectacular since every bit of it was their own creation.  Even in the remix rounds it was difficult to compare with the original song as every team had done a great job of making it completely different. Unfortunately our brains are so seasoned  that it always looks for the original song and compare with that. All the programs that have been coming  these days are also to blame.  Since our brain cells continuously tries to compare, we may get drifted and tend to think the performance is not good. But if we come out of it and look at the originality, truly every bit of performance by these teams are a masterpiece.That’s what I love this program for.

On the teams itself, this week we had Oxygen, Route 10 and Innovusions. As I said earlier, each of the teams rocked. Oxygen had a good melody. The song was pretty good and they did a good mix of carnatic and western. The voice could have been better but they did a good job. Even in the remix round their concept and performance was good. They excelled in all the sections.

 

Route 10 was indeed amazing. With just a four member band they did a wonderful job. The voice was better for this band than the rest of the teams and they also had a good mix of sections.  Vasundara Das while giving comments on their performance mentioned that the singer was loitering around the stage and showing the back to audience etc.Yes she was was. But I thought the singer was oblivious to the world and truly rendered a fantastic performance. Wont the best of a person come when they are completely oblivious? I tend to disagree with Vasundhara Das there.

The Innovusions is another rocker. They were also able to mix carnatic with western and render a fantastic piece. They did do a daring act of less voice and more music in the first round. They excelled on all fronts. Infact in their remix round I really couldn’t get to the original song at all. It was soo good.

While Innovusions was the first to get eliminated, Route 10 was pipped on the post by Oxygen. Congratulations Oxygen. At the same time congratulations Innovusions, Route 10 for those fantabulous performances.

Vasundhara Das keeps talking of voice to all the teams. May be because she comes from such a background and Sivamani would be judging the rhythm section and Paul Jacob as a composer would be doing an overall. But I would think that Vasundhara Dass should come out of just voice and start commenting and judging on all factors.

Like enjoying every bit of the performance, I also loved watching Paul Jacob whenever they showed him. He was absolutely experiencing every moment and was ecstatic. It was lovely to watch him enjoy.

Right now this program is ecstasy for me and I want to be in this for long long time. I have already watched the videos twice today and will get to see it many more times before the next episode. 🙂
