Sagar dam

Since Tuesday Oct 2nd was a holiday, we had decided to go for a long drive than sit at home and watch TV. We had planned to go to Nagarjunasagar dam which is about 150 kms from Hyderabad.

The idea was to spend the day and go for a nice drive rather than a big picnic spot. But the Sagar dam really turned out to be a nice spot.

We started at about 7 45 AM and took the Uppal route. From Uppal we went towards Ibrahimpattinam. Just a few kms before Ibrahimpattinam there was a nice lake. We just stopped and spent some time there. Dont know the name of the lake. Right opposite to the lake was some nice green fields.Looking green on one side of the road and looking blue on the other side of the road, it was a nice sight.

After spending about half hour enjoying this scenic beauty we set off driving again. In a few minutes we crossed Ibrahimpattinam. This was a small village and as soon as we crossed this we found a very interesting scene. It seemed like a “Maatu Sandhai” (Cow fair). Though we have seen these in our villages during the young days, it was refreshing to see this after a very very long time. I was looking at this very closely to find if any of them used towels and fingers to negotiate but unfortunately no. 😉

After enjoying this for some time we set out again. The road was excellent throughout and it was a fantastic drive. After a hour and a half drive we were getting close to the Sagar dam. We saw yet another beautiful lake.

In a few minutes we reached the Nagarjunasagar dam. It was such a wonderful sight. It was water everywhere. I first captured some pictures of the water coming out of the dam on top view.

This being October, there was enough water in the dam. 12 of the sluicegates were open and it was such a pleasure to watch the ware gushing out of the gates.

We then went down to the bottom of the dam. Since river Krishna was in such a spate, there were enough warning not to enter the water. There were two watch gaurds making sure people did not enter the water. We just went close to the water and sat on the bank. We touched the water and it was so cold. The sound of water flowing and gushing was so good. It was a real nice feeling.I managed to capture some real effect of water flow.

Lots of fish were swimming across the flow and infact they were diving over the water. I managed to capture a fish jumping. (check on the right bottom corner).

From Sagar dam we set out to a place called Ettipotala Falls. This is about 15 kms from Sagar dam. As we reached there, we were surprised not to find much crowd. The place was not that great.

After spending about half hour we set out our journey back. As I had mentioned before the road was sooooo good and driving was an experience. I was really enjoying the drive . There was almost no traffic and this is something that we cannot get to see in our city roads. The only traffic disturbance that we had was from cows. We took a snap and also got a very nice pose from the cattleman. 🙂

The whole day was a very nice experience and brought some freshness into the body and mind.
