An amazing program in Sun TV..Oohlalala. Oodles of talent and creativity flowing. While all we have been seeing is voice hunt, the new thought of a band hunt is really different. Championing the search is none other than music maestro AR Rahman, it ought to be so.

While this program has been on air for two weeks and today was the third, the previous two weeks were more of a primer and introduction to the program. Today was the first day the bands started performing.

I just loved watching every moment of the program. This is definitely not enough. Yes. Half hour is just not enough for this program. I wish Sun TV makes this a one hour program and gives us more of this musical extravaganza.

The three bands that played today namely Agam, Madhu’s little masters and V3 were simply fantastic. It really showed how much they enjoyed themselves and what a performance by each of them.

Since they are rendering their own composition, there was no way of comparing them with anything original. They were original.Simply original. The versatility of voice by V3 was too good. The lead singer was indeed fantastic. He not only sang very well but also performed, though performance may not be a criteria at all. I thought the band was very good on all grounds.

So was Madhu’s little masters. They had a very good mix and everyone performed well. While the jury was ecstatic about their rhythm section (and when it comes from Sivamani do we have a locus standi to comment 😉 , they did perform very very well.

Agam were also very good. But I felt that their percussion section  was dominating over the voice and the lead sections. I felt  the balance was a little less between various sections.

Now what ever it is, this is one awesome program and definitely something new , different and fantastic.

I really wish we could get to hear each of the band more. Just one performance is not sufficient. When each of the band is soooooooo good why shouldn’t we get more of them. While there has been very little innovation in the Indian TV much dominated by those soap operas, I am certain this program is going to set a new trend.

With judges like Sivamani, Vasundara Dass and Paul Jacob, the organisers have roped in some some of the best possible people. I would really like to hear a lot more of comments from judges on the performance of each band than the current one liner or short comment.

I am so much in love with the program and just need more of this. Cant wait till next Sunday.

Thanks Sun TV for this wonderful program and ofcourse to our ever great AR Rahman.

Hats off to each and every band. Whether these bands make it to next round or not, they for sure are going to rock the music world.

Yes the show was quite good!
Though both the performances of Agam was quite good, they didn’t show much versatility since both their songs were classical-based. Considering that fact, V3 deserved to win yesterday. I too wish the judges give more exhaustive comments focussing on all the aspects.

Being on business abroad would prevent me from watching this program , but your blog has given a holistic picture of the program. The concept is pretty good and it is different from other stereotyped programs on TV which is allways based on film songs.
This is a great oppurtunity for all those future “Maestros” out there!!!

I really loved the show yesterday. The winners deserved it for their versatility and that is what distinguished them from the rest. It is a good step towards innovation in music and conspicuously different from the soaps that Sun TV is known for 🙂

I gotta watch this one after reading this review.let me see 🙂 but ,truly,I am bored of watching programs where people just mete out film songs. It would be nice to see people composing their own numbers and showing some creativity !

@Aparna: Absolutely.. thats the main reason Agam lost out.. and hopefully we will get to hear more from he judges..

@Nadini: Dont worry.. you are not missing anything.. just check out this link.. you can see the complete episode as well as earlier episodes..you will probably need a high speed connection..This is indeed a program thats unique and a trend setter ..

@ashwin: we were discussing today and it looks like the innovation of such a program may not be credited to Sun TV after all..since the videos are located in the ooohlalala site and the program is actually owned by Group M ESP and Sa Re Ga Ma.. so Sun TV is just airing the program and have nothing else to do.. probably thats the reason it is not in the prime time too.. whatever it is, we have one helluva program.. 🙂

@Sangs: you are right.. with programs being monotonous and stereotype, this ooohlalala is completely new and different..its there to stay in our hearts and minds…:)
