The Road ahead…..

Its been three years since I have been driving to work from the same place.

Yes. My house. πŸ™‚

But what is interesting is the travel that has been happening over these three years has seen very interesting (/:) times.

3 years ago:

My house is in a place which was actually a god forsaken place with almost no access road till my apartment. The only route to my office had a open railway gate midway. The distance to reach office was something like 14 kms. It used to take 45 minutes to reach office or home depending on where I start from .There have been days it used to take 3 hours given the road sense and pandemonium created by the entire human creed (educated, uneducated, rural , urban and whatsoever) at the railway gate. I used to curse myself on some days for why I chose the house there.

Then came the angel descending in the form a flyover at the railway gate.

2 years ago:

The angel having descended, I was happy that there are no more waiting for hours together in the orderly traffic(/:) at the railway gate. Happily I was getting to and fro office in exactly 30 minutes. No more waiting at the gates. No jams. Life is peaceful (driving perspective.. πŸ™‚

1 and a half year ago:

The area I live is becoming a hub of housing activity and things are improving with decent road to my place, shops all over including retail, hospitals and all essential and non essential outlets. Life is good. (Not the LG advt) πŸ™‚

1 year ago:

Here comes God. Yes. It is not the angel this time. It is infact God!!!!! A new spinal road connecting this part of the village to the city’s bustling area. This road is infact made by removing rock mountains (believe me these guys do it. The Road is actually between rocks hills on the sides). Ofcourse thanks to the Congress Party’s plenary and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, these roads get made – and the whole place looks like we are in western world…!!!!!

Things cant be better than this. How peaceful. The road exactly looks like a run way and I even called it Runway 9 and love driving these roads. Just a small stretch which is a subway underΒ  the railway line and a little narrow. That’s ok.

Now my office is only 8 kms from home and it takes exactly 15 minutes to reach office. Yes. Now I really feel I have taken the right decision to stay in this place and definitely not a god forsaken place anymore(since god has actually descended here.. πŸ™‚

Current Status:

Every thing is same. Good roads. Same distance of 8 Kms. So many more shops including Reliance retail.. πŸ™‚ What else I can ask for.

The only thing is there are traffic bottle necks. Two signals and the subway. I wait for a minimum of 10 minutes in each signal extending upto 15 minutes. I wait for a minimum of 10 minutes at the subway extending upto 30 minutes. I reach office anywhere between 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes.

This morning I took exactly one hour and towards the end had to rush (sigh..) to attend a meeting.

So I am almost back to square one in terms of travel time. I used to take upto 2 hours down to 45 minutes down to 30 minutes down to 15 minutes. Now I am back to traveling more than one hour inspite of the distance reducing by half.

Wish I had Nimbus 2000:)

instead of my car…

hi…i think u should be back to square one completely…meaning change the route if you are ok with riding 4KM extra…if you come the Miyapur way there is no signal anywhere and even u dont touch the cyber towers if you take a right turn at Satyam….

    Jay

I tell you.. As the days are passing by you may feel that india is progressing…which can be proved by your observation..
But..i really dont give importance to such growth when the long term solutions are not applied.

The roads will be narrow instead of a 4 or 3 lane..I have seen my place getting developed year after year..but the problem instead of declining is rising …when they had land to make a 4 lane road they just made it single lane..

If u travel by Mumbai Pune NH4 highway..instead of a National Highway its single lane ..not even two lane…that disappoints me further..

A long term solution is needed ,not a patch work..

eg..the south mumbai is being developed and planned by the britishers…i bet they had made perfect planning of roads..and sewage..South mumbai has wide roads than the surburbs..and there is never water logging…26th july 2005 floods was only for mumbai suburbs…

So its our inefficiency ,when we dont find solutions which will last for long term…We shud over come such problems..then only we can grow potentially…otherwise it wud be a patching at every problem which can crumble down anytime…

I think the governmenat should start doing some good city planning. City planners should plan commercial areas differently from that of housing areas and also plan wider roads instead of giving off lands to commercial establishments…

Moveover to Suburbs of “Madras” …Its a cool place to be and better city planning!!!

@Ravi: Welcome to my page..I agree…looks like that was what i may have to do…:)

@Nitin: absolutely right.. I cant agree more with you on this… while it does look things are progressing externally the conditions are deteriorating…I hope some sense prevails with the decision makers..

@Nandini: Absolutely.. city planning has to be done properly rather than looking at the land as a revenue model for the govt..on the madras suburb..a yes and a no…i love chennai.. no doubt.. but chennai is not the only place in this world:)

Siva – that was a fun post. I think the spinal road is being abused the most. It is such a useful short cut to Kukatpally area that almost half the traffic from Madhapur takes this route nowadays. So much so that even those going to Patancheru prefer to take this route than the road to Miyapur (and I do not understand what makes people do that).

I commute 20 kms from Secunderabad. I take less than 1 hour even in peak hours. My usual time is before 8 AM and that takes me around 35 mins. Maybe you should relocate to Secunderabad πŸ™‚ If the Panjagutta flyover is completed, it could be easy even during peak hours. (crossed fingers waiting with hope πŸ™‚ )

@Shankar: Welcome to my blog :)thanks..
You have used the right word.. the road is not used or misused.. it is abused… As much as I used to love driving I am beginning to hate it these days.. I definitely think there is a need to relocate.. maybe even closer to Pune.. that will serve 2 purposes.. I can drive in the highway and feel happy driving.. secondly even if it takes time I can atleast convince myself that it is because of the distance only.. πŸ™‚
